The Ferryman Reviews

Had a lovely stay once again, location is great, with views of the harbour and lifting bridge. Walking distance to Weymouth, local shops, local ferry, boat trips, Nothe Fort and Stone Pier Cafe as well as Bennetts Fish and Chip shop. Facilities in the house all excellent and lovely welcome pack to have tea and biscuits on arrival.
Nicola
Absolutely loved this property. The location was perfect and just what I needed. The view was just amazing, could spent hours sat looking out of that window and I did! The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Had an issue getting the key out of the safe on arrival but someone came to help and all sorted within about ten minutes. Only downside is the stairs to the bedrooms, they are very steep and narrow as described but this was a problem for my elderly parents during the night.
Our holiday at the Ferryman was wonderful. Place was very clean, and had everything we needed and more. Owners really nice and even called on our first day to check all was well with our stay. The added bonus of the harbour being right outside where the kids could go crabbing was wonderful. Such a lovely view to wake up each morning. Would love to come back someday. Thank you.
I booked this property for my mother in law for a visit to see us in Weymouth. She said this is the best property she has ever stayed in. Immaculately clean, really well presented, a prefect view of the harbour and so comfortable she didnt want to leave. She is already looking at dates for a visit later in the year.
Great cottage good location for us short walk into town
Louise
Weve been coming to the Ferryman since pre Covid and absolutely love it. We would however say that some of the furnishings are beginning to show their age. The chairs in the living area are much less comfortable and considering you want to spend most of the time in the accommodation using them to appreciate the view more padding would be nice. Other than that we cant fault a thing, see you next year.
Elizabeth
4th time we have stayed here, and have had a lovely stay again. From the moment we walk through the front door, we feel right at home. There is everything we need, and the view, as always, is absolutely delightful. The goody hamper is such a treat, and we had no problem parking near the property. We would not hesitate to stay again, when visiting Weymouth and Dorset, and look forward to doing so.
Andrew
Overall a nice stay at the ferryman great location looking over the harbour. House generally in good order . The bathroom is looking a bit tired and mould is appearing in places. Bathroom fan is extremely dirty and does not work. I would book again for the location
The Ferryman is exceptionally well appointed, meaning self catering was made very easy, including the welcome pack. We had a needed to replace a bulb and the Cafettiere when visiting this was done on the day of notification impressive. The harbour view from the 1st floor, you could sit all day and watch from. The owner provides a parking permit, which is an absolute must in this location. Genuinely, this the 1st time I have said that we would definitely return to this property.
This was our 3rd or even possibly 4th visit to the Ferryman, the property suits our needs perfectly, we are a family of 4 consisting two adults and two boys aged 9 &10. The cottage has everything that you need for a great stay, the views to the front are fabulous and you can spend so much time watching the world go by. The property has an enviable location being about 5 metres away from the Harbour wall, crabbing or fishing is literally on your door step. Property is close to all sort off amenities. Be prepared stairs are narrow and steep. Parking permits was really useful as we managed to Park in one of the nearby parking bays. Would definetlly book again.

We loved our stay. The location is perfect close enough to the beach and shops etc that you aren't having to drive every day parking was largely fine there was space to pull up outside to unload before parking up properly when there wasn't a space right outside the view was wonderful highly recommend an early morning coffee out in the harbour wall. We would have liked to have rated it more highly, but the cleaning and maintenance let the place down on first impressions, which started our week off poorly. The cooker hood was thick with dust, a big wad of tissue which had obviously been used for cleaning something had been left on a dining chair, there were crisps and medication on the living room floor, and a plug socket hanging off the wall in the twin bedroom, as well as lots of discolouration around the bath. I reported this through the Sykes app and had no response at all. When I queried the lack of response almost a week later, I was effectively told that if I wanted a response, I should have called. Not great customer service at all! But if it weren't for those points, we'd have rated our stay much higher.

The property is in a excellent location and very well equipped the only downside ... The property is in a excellent location and very well equipped the only downside is the bathroom needs to be updated otherwise a very pleasant and most enjoyable stay
Could not ask for more was great place to stay
Andrew
Excellent stay in the ferryman cottage. Small and very comfortable and in a wonderful location. The view of the harbour is fantastic. Harbour area car permit meant we could park by our front door almost every night. Very nice welcome hamper from the Dorset Happy Hamper Company who gave us everything we needed to start our holiday even milk. One improvement which could be made is opscure film put over the glass in the bathroom and there's a piece of skirting board missing in the kitchen behind the main door. Other than that can't fault this place we had a really relaxing stay and will be back next year
We loved the location of this property it was absolutely perfect. We know Weymouth well but have never stayed this end before and we loved it. Literally have everything we needed on the doorstep which was excellent. The welcome pack was a really lovely touch, and the beds being made up and towels being provided was really helpful since we didnt have to bring our own! The surprising thing is how quiet it is, since its a busy walk way with lots of pubs and restaurants and families crabbing but it was lovely and quiet all week. Bliss! The property itself is really lovely but there are a few things that would make it even better, the furniture in the living room is very old and not very comfortable. The small table is very wobbly! The booklet says there were basic cleaning facilities but in all honesty we didnt find any that would have been useful to give the place a clean, we bought our own so it was fine but maybe consider checking what is available. The oven inside was spotless but the top of the oven wasnt as clean, we didnt cook often and gave it a clean ourselves but again its worth checking yourselves. Like I said I didnt mention it because we didnt cook often but if you are paying for the property to be cleaned then you need to be aware of something if it isnt quite perfect! The key safe was easy to open when we arrived but I found it impossible to re lock it on the last day, in fact it pinched the top of my finger tip, I walked the keys back to the office and explained this and the lady kindly accepted them and said she would contact the cleaner. The cleaner was outside the property while we waited for our cab to the station and asked me where the key was and I said I literally just walked it back to the office, she said there wasnt an office, I offered to walk with her but she said no. In fact she was rude. These little things did not spoil our holiday at all and it wouldnt prevent me from recommending the property but I always like to be honest in the hope that you can make the necessary improvements.
Great position. Very comfortable and well equipped.
Great property. Modern kitchen and lovely cottage that still has the nice character to it. It's decorated nice with little holiday touches here and there. Has everything you need and the welcome Hamper was a lovely suprise. It has Great harbour views the kids loved watching the boats pass by and the bridge lift up. It was nice that we didn't have to use the car all week everything within walking distance. Would highly recommend staying at this property we will return in the future. We also had great weather.
The cottage is lovely! There is a small leak on the hot water tap in the downstairs toilet and to reiterate other peoples comments in the guestbook, a frosted window in the bathroom would be great as we felt were in semi permanent darkness in having to have the blind down all the time. Otherwise everything else was great
Gerard Philip
Excellent location overlooking the harbour and near to the Sailing Club that we were sailing from. Stairs are very steep to the bedrooms but plenty of hand holds. Loved our stay thank you
Lovely cottage, Windows need sorting and it's a shame you put prices up, we normally go to cottage in November but the price increase has put us off so will be looking for something else.
Carole
We loved our week at this spotlessly clean, stylish Georgian cottage on the harbourfront. Its outstanding feature for us was the view of the harbour bridge and the boats sailing to and fro. The seaside decor was very tasteful and the furnishings were very comfortable for us. It was very well equipped with everything we needed. We very much appreciated the box of goodies by the Happy Hamper company. It was a lovely surprise. We so enjoyed the Dorset tea that we are now buying it in our weekly shop. One caution for oldies the cottage is laid out on three floors with fairly steep stairs, and the bathroom is on the floor below the bedrooms. We hated leaving, and would definitely stay at Ferryman again.
The Ferryman is in an absolutely fabulous location with far reaching views over the old harbour looking towards the towns lifting bridge. Away from anything noisy but close enough to pubs, restaurants and about 5 metres to the sea, ideal for crabbing or sitting on the harbour wall with a nice glass of wine. This was our 3rd visit to this property and it works perfectly well for us, two adults and two children 7 & 9. The cottage is a quirky as they come and with it there are some relatively steep stairs to navigate to get to the living room and the bedrooms. From the cottage there is easy access to the town, Nothe Forte or the pier. Cleaning could be improved but it was not an issue and it will not stop us booking again.
We had a perfect break away in this fantastic cottage. Location was amazing and would never get tired of the view from both the kitchen and lounge windows! Would happily book again.
A wonderful clean little cottage in a prime location with free parking. The hamper was a lovely touch and very enjoyable. Everything was there to make a prefect holiday. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Ferryman.
Had a lovely week in this property. The Ferryman was very clean, warm and comfortable. There's nothing quite like sitting by the window in the lounge admiring the view! Only used TV once in the whole week!! Lovely location meant we didn't need to use our car at all. Hope to be back soon.
Fantastic time in a stunning Cottage in an amazing location, we checked the price for August but its far too expensive for us to stay that time of year so it looks like we can only stay there in Winter but would definitely stay again, the hamper was a nice surprise and full of lovely stuff. Thank you.
Could do with a new microwave as this one looks worn inside.
Annemarie
There was a couple of issues, down stairs front door draft seals, two small steps going in to back toilet needs please mind the steps, up stairs living room by bay window piece of wooden flooring up very sharp when put food on it half inch up just need sanding down and wood clue with heavy weight on top which then would bring back into level, most one is the stairs up to second floor bedrooms you need two spindles as at present is open gab. plus if possible where the bookcase is have some sort of railings going across this would also help people going up and down stairs. Otherwise everything was excellent the settee and chairs was comfy, integrated fridge freezer was brilliant beds comfy and lovely and clean, We cleaned everything before we left, if there was bunk beds in family room I could use this 3 or 4 times a year with the family.
A little gem in Weymouth. Located in the habour directly opposite the bridge, you can sit outside what the boats come and go, crab or eat fish and chips from the shop or restaurants which are a two minute walk away. The house is clean and bijou, perfect for a small family. We really enjoyed our stay and will be using the property again.
Gareth
Excellent ! A lovely period cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom. Superb location just a minute walk to the first bar and a 10 second walk for you nearest ice cream. We went crabbing on the harbour wall right in front of the cottage. Parking was outside not in a remote car park. Excellent views of the harbour from all the front windows to which there are well placed armchairs that will leave you sat there just taking in the views. Highly recommend.
Sheila
Lovely house great position everything very clean and of good standard Loved being at the harbour. Found 2nd bedroom a bit small but it was workable with the huge cupboard on the landing Slightly worried about the mirror on first floor as someone could be looking at themselves and trip down the stairs. Otherwise perfect and would definitely return
Leslie
Had a wonderful time in this well equipped cottage. Lovely location nice walks close by.Would certainly recommend this cottage to friends.one small thing would be for the gap between the handrail and the stairs be filled in as it feels quite dangerous. Also the mirror at the top of the staircase is in a dangerous place so close to the top of the staircase,,
The location of this property is amazing. Everything was catered for in the house. Our only moan would be notice of any activityevents that are happening around the area. We turned up at 4.15 with fayre in the square happening so struggled to park. And had to carry our luggage through the crowds of people. If we were aware of this we would of turned up later.
Lovely stay at the everyman as always, can't wait till next time.
Tracey
The Ferryman is a lovely cottage for a couple and older children. The stairs and deep bath would make it difficult for young children or anyone with mobility issues. The Courtyard is not very welcoming but not a problem for us as we only really slept there. Views are breathtaking. Beds and bedding very comfy
A great cottage in an excellent location with stunning views over Weymouth Harbour. The cottage worked perfectly for our family, 2 adults and two children 6&7. The cottage is close to all amenities and parking is not far away in a safe location. We did find that the cottage was not cleaned all that well, dirty floors and thick dust on top of ledges etc We have looked at rebooking for next year however as the cost for the same week in 2022 is 53 or 625 more that the cost than this year, we will look elsewhere. Someone is profiteering which is very disappointing.
May 2021 Myself and partner stopped here for short week away during may. It was a fantastic house which has stunning views of the harbour and near lots of pubs and cafes. You could spend all day just looking out the living window at the lovely view. There are also lovely walks to nothe fort and not far to centre of Weymouth. House was lovely, modern and quirky inside and very clean. Parking was also not far from the house and parmit also covered some of the other carparks in Weymouth. We had a lovely time and really recommend the stay here and also Dream cottages.
Lesley
The ferryman is a lovely property with everything you need and an amazing view in an ideal spot
