Slade Cottage Reviews

Philip
Slade Cottage exceeded our expectations and was perfect for our family gathering. Beautiful house, garden and location and friendly and welcoming hosts next door.

We are family party of 8 who try to get a post Christmas pre spring break each year and always look to book 56 bedroom properties through Sykes. This year Slade Cottage was chosen as it met requirements and was close to local facilities. We all agreed that this lovely old farmhouse didn't dissapoint. Upon arrival we met our lovely host who was so welcoming. The five bedrooms and two bathrooms were nice. The kitchen is fitted out with all you need if planning self catering including plenty of crockery, utensils, pots pans. Induction hob, oven, microwave, fridgefreezer, dishwasher. Also at time of winter visit, the AGA was on so an additional cool oven, hot oven & two hotplates. The large kitchen includes a table that comfortably seats eight. The large lounge has two three seater sofas plus additional chairs. Whilst there is a good central heating system, the lounge also benefits from an open fire. We had lovely log fires every evening of our stay. WiFi is excellent. Outside shared garden is fiund beyond a large sunroom. This room is not heated so not for this visit but in summer months it would be lovely and also has another large family sized table. A private pathway through the garden is a walk of just half a mile to the beach. Out of the front gate it is half a mile to the local pub which has a friendly atmosphere. Also Frolics restaurant. Portuguese during the week. We had traditional Sunday roast at the weekend. It was excellent. Also at nearby St. Brides Major is a frendly SPAR shop and The Fox pub. Superb meals. Slade Cottage offers everything you need in terms of a great property and local facilities to make for a relaxing break away. Once there you don't even need a car!
Slade cottage was a lovely cottage in a brilliant location close to Dunraven Bay and the Wales coastal path. The cottage is pretty and set within beautiful gardens and countryside. The down side to our stay was that the cottage was cold on arrival, on a 3oc January day, and took hours to warm up. We stayed in our coats and had hot water bottles for a few hours until it warmed up. When warmed up the cottage was very comfortable. On such a cold day, it would have been nice for the cottage heating to have been on for our arrival. Also we had 4 toilet rolls 2 in each bathroom for 8 of us for a 3 night stay, and we had to buy more as no more were provided when asked. These were minor things and overall we had a lovely stay and would stay again.

The most amazing home set in the most stunning location. Absolutely perfect for family get togethers, even your 4 legged friends are welcome! We stayed here so the family could be together before my granddaughters wedding. We will all have the wonderful memories of the bridal party getting ready in the fantastic conservatory, overlooking the fantastic grounds.
My wife and I like to book cottages on three occasions each year so that we can invite our three children and their families to spend quality time with us. This year we decided to go to Southerndown on two of those occasions and we really enjoyed our time at Slade Cottage. Whilst Slade Cottage is not a modern property it has a charm all its own and we feel that it gives very good value for money for such a large property that can accommodates the whole family. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the property has a roomy homely feeling, and we particularly enjoyed the very large conservatory with its views of the beautiful garden. Some items could be upgraded but the garden and the ability to privately walk down through it to Dunraven Beach were a delight. Also to be able to sit at so many various points in the garden and appreciate the wildlife birds, hares, hedge hogs, etc was very enjoyable but do keep your dog on a lead. The downstairs bedroom and shower room were a real benefit for us as we have difficulty with climbing stairs. Many thanks to Slade Cottage for an very enjoyable and cost effective fortnight vacation.
We had a lovely week here. The gardens are stunning and beds very comfortable. The walk down to the beach was short and beautiful and the beach is gorgeous. Crafts by the Sea cafe in Ogmore by Sea is great and does the BEST ice cream ever! We went to porthcawl beach also the quiet end by the lighthouse as the sand is better for castle building there. Neway Chinese takeaway nearby and Finnegans fish & chips highly recommended.

We had a lovely holiday at Slade Cottage. It is such a beautiful setting with a short walk to the beach through the garden and a small wooded area. This is perfect for children as we could go up and down as it suited us very easily. The house was clean and comfortable and the large conservatory was very useful. The owners were welcoming and despite being away themselves arranged for some valuables left behind to be returned to us very promptly for which we were very grateful.
Joanne
Whilst we had a lovely holiday it would have been nice to know in advance that the outdoor space was not secure for our dog as we would probably have booked elsewhere. The cottage is in a nice seculded spot so plenty of peace and quiet. The local beach at the bottom of the garden walk is not dog friendly during May to September. The cottage needs some TLC, there was a leak in the conservatory which the owners are aware of, luckily we didn't have too much rain. Nice welcome pack and very comfy beds.

After two annual visits I think there is starting to show need of some repairs to certain parts of the property ie the conservatory and some curtains etc have been pulled off the tracks etc. Owners are very pleasant on meeting them and the property was warm and comfortable.
Jennifer
We had a wonderful week at Slade Cottage with our two families. The location is wonderful with a short walk to one of the best beaches in the area. You can walk from the beach along the coastal path with great clifftop views. The house is very well equipped throughout with everything needed in the kitchen. Comfortable beds with white linen and plenty of room for 2 families to dine together at the large kitchen table or in the conservatory. The garden is stunning with beautiful flowers and shrubs and is a fantastic haven to sit and relax. The owners are nearby and are very helpful with help if needed and suggestions for days out and activities. We would throughly recommend Slade Cottage we had a wonderful holiday.

Cottage with lovely outlook across owners garden etc. Good walking area. Very quiet and restful stay. Would recomend and return in the future.
This was a family get together and 7 of us stayed in the cottage for a week. With 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, there was plenty of room, and the kitchen, lounge and conservatory were all large rooms too. The conservatory had wonderful views of the garden and the kitchen was very cosy and pretty. It was great having two different areas we could eat in. The conservatory was bigger, but the kitchen was warmer. We were all impressed with the bedrooms which were all well furnished beds were comfortable and the bedding felt lovely quality. There are some fantastic views from the windows. It's truly a beautiful property! It's also very practical the kitchen is well equipped and there's plenty of storage space for groceries, which isn't always the case. We had some minor problems with the house during our stay and the owner responded quickly to fix things. For example, the heating had turned off as it was April, but they turned it back on and were very generous with the timings. This made a big difference to my elderly parents who feel the cold. They also welcomed us with homemade Welsh cakes and fresh local milk. If we went back to the area, we would definitely stay here again.
Kenneth
We loved our holiday at Slade cottage, perfect for everything. Thank you The only worry was no fenced off back garden, when booking we thought this was included. Xxx
Virginia
