Laurel Cottage Reviews

The cottage was ideal for just the two of us and the dog. Finding it was a little bit of pot luck. The directions named a pub that no longer exists and the sign that names the location is only on one side of the driveway so you can't see it when travelling in the other. That said the cottage was well presented and had everything we needed. As with other reviews, the water pressure is next to nil upstairs and slow downstairs. The decking has been repaired but should probably be replaced. The net fencing under the hedge is well intentioned but not maintained and our dog did manage to breech the boundary. Other than that the location is great. I would stay there again.

Very cosy, beautifully situated cottage. Was extremely clean. Beds were very comfortable, we slept very well. Would stay again.
Christine
Pressure in bathroom basin tap very poor.
Lovely comfortable cottage . For us with a dog , location wasnt great as there were no walks that we could find without getting in the car to go to . The only issue that wasnt good was the tiny bathroom sink and slow water pressure, so teeth brushing was done over the bath. Would recommend the Smugglers Pub , great location and food delicious , nice friendly staff .
It was a great stay. Everything was as described. There were two things that could improve it more. First, the bathroom hand basin tap needs to be more powerful. The other was new saucepans needed. The nonstick is very patchy and was coming off when cooking. If these things were changed I would have given full marks.
Very small bed. Mattress not very comfortable. More than one toilet roll would have been nice. Hand rail in bath would be safer. Shower was excellent. Couldn't find manuals for cooker. Hot water stopped working, excellent response once reported.

Had a fantastic stay at Laurel cottage. It was perfect in every way with everything provided to a very high standard.Would highly recommend to all with its location to exploring the jurrasic coast and local attractions. Will definitely be coming back again in the future.
Had a lovely stay. Everything catered for.
I thought it was very poor unfortunately. When we arrived we found at least 50 of what are probably 'dung flies' from the dairy farm that is about 50 metres away, flying around the cottage. If there is such a problem you would think they would provide utensils, fly swatter, fly traps etc but none to be seen so I spent the entire 3 days chasing these bacteria spreading insects around the house. We were never made aware that the smell of cow dung would be so profound either. There were cobwebs everywhere, one morning I woke up with one on my face which was horrifying to be honest. Finally if you have any sort of allergy to that musty 'cottage character' , steer clear because we both spent 3 days sneezing. Location was relatively convenient for us as we were there for a wedding in Lulworth, and the Smugglers Inn nearby was kind of cool, but everything else about our experience of Devon was unappealing. Crap food, killed on exchange rate, and inhospitable hospitality staff is apparently common in the area.
The post code didn't go to the cottage. The sign for the cottages was covered up by follage. We couldn't find the Fox pub as it doesn't exsist anymore. TV instructions didn't work so had to ring up Dream Cottages to get somebody out. Then he repaired bathroom sink as didn't retain any water. Hook on back of bathroom door hung off. No instructions for use of cooker or micro wave found.
Nice, complete and clean cottage. We enjoyed staying in it.
The location was difficult with dog no footpaths , Cleaning was awful first ... The location was difficult with dog no footpaths , Cleaning was awful first job was to was all the plates and and pans
Cottage wasn't very clean, the sofa is grubby and in need of a good clean. We had to wash alot of the sauce pans, cutlery and dishes before using them. Why are you left dishwasher tablets when the cottage clearly doesn't have one? Whilst we appreciate the cottage age, the cobwebs in there had been in place alot longer than just over night! The cottage description is out of date, the local pub has been closed for a while, the description doesn't mention the proximity of the cottage to the main road and other properties.
The cottage and setting was fabulous, unfortunately the oven was not very clean inside and the oven dishes and trays needed a proper wash. The TV remote needed new batteries and we could only access ITV. The hooks on the bedroom and bathroom doors only have one screw fitting, so are unusable. The cottage was comfy and well stocked, all other appliances where fine. The only wooden spoon was cracked along the bowl and had to be discarded. It wouldn't take long to make the whole place wonderful. We had a great week and found loads to do, thank you
We were unaware that this cottage was in a small complex of other properties. A neighbouring property was conducting car repairs over a 2 day period. The cottage itself was very nice with an extremely comfortable bed. The standard of furniture etc was very good. We would like to mention that we had to descale the kettle before use as it was in a bad state. We also had to purchase replacement batteries for the 2 tv remotes. Other than the above mentioned we enjoyed our stay.

Laurel Cottage is a cosy and homely place to stay and a welcome place to come back to after a day out.
Lovely, cosy cottage. Clean and tidy. Would definitely go back again.
Jeanette
Overall property was clean and comfortable. ..the bed and pillows extremely comfy and slept really well. The bathroom too is modern and a great shower. A quirky spiral staircase and beams add character. Parking spot outside front door is great. The property has a small outside space which is a bonus and somewhere to enjoy a coffee plus fenced off so our little dog couldn't escape. Location wise Osmington in an ideal position to pop into Weymouth plus days out further afield....we had a very good value meal at The Sailors Return in Chaldon Herring...pie night on Wednesdays! A few minor issues as regards kitchen equipment needed a washing up bowl! were dealt with very swiftly by Dream Cottages and owner so overall a very good experience.
Very comfortable, beautiful quiet location. The cottage itself was gorgeous, chocolate box, thatched roof cottage. Located in Osmington so a short drive into Weymouth itself. Everything was catered for, we loved playing Scrabble on an evening. The only suggestion we would have is that a bread knife would be nice to have. We've stayed in multiple places around Weymouth over the years and would happily stay at Laurel Cottage again!
Overall very pleased with cottage. Presented well and ideally located for our needs. Issue with plumbing resolved very promptly. Bed was very comfortable and would be happy to recommend.
Excellent location and 20 mins in car to various places. Sun in small garden through our morning. No grass area for dogs so headed to the fields and oastal paths, not a problem. Cottage has everything covered even coffee, washing up liquid etc. Also provide a hairdryer which was not mentioned in the description. The bed was really comfy and from John Lewis! Fab dual shower but sadly when we had a bath this leaked all through to ceiling to thd kitchen down thd beams. Sadly this had happened before as thd ceiling has yellow patches from previous leaks, I hope this gets fixed out of season as needs sorting, not good on the eye! Contacting Dream cottagesSkyes on Sunday and had a response on the Monday saying someone will be in touch, true to word on Tuesday the team called me and entered the cottage while we were out. Added extra draining liquid down the plug and this stopped the blockage but please please this must be looked at because it was a massive inconvenience to us mopping the floor and wiping thd kitchen units especially during dinner time. Would we go back or recommend....YES we would. Thank you.
Matthew
Fantastic holiday in this lovely little cottage. It was perfectly located within Dorset for visiting the attractions and was clean and comfortable. We'd love to return.
It was a little difficult to find, as the pub mentioned in the directions doesn't seem to exist. Apart from that, we had a wonderful stay.
Interesting property and really well located. The garden really needs to be fenced if dogs are allowed as ours escaped.
Anthony
Regrettably upon arrival the cottage hadn't been cleaned or fresh bedlinen etc. provided. Being a Sunday it proved awkward to establish communication with the owner, however, Sykes sorted this out for us and the owner provided all that was required promptly and in a very friendly manner. The cottage was as described and with a small garden to the rear was a lovely spot to use as a base for exploring the local coastline and going into Weymouth. It is worth noting that the cottage does not stand alone but there is sufficient parking space, just. A very nice cottage which we may well visit again.
Lovely cottage. Clean and comfortable. Good location. Our one issue was the back garden. Property advertised as pet friendly but apparently this does not mean pet secure. This was a very small area that could easily be secured. We were assisted by very helpful couple who live on site. They supplied us with two pallets to block the area!!
Great location, easy access to Weymouth and surrounding areas. Comfortable and compact cottage in a picturesque setting, thatched roofed cottages. Good quality bedding and towels. Poor standard of cleanliness , blinds, settee and armchair need to be replaced. dirty and stained. Interior paintwork needed cleaning or repainting. Glasses and crockery needed to be washed before use. Tiles in shower area needed a good scrub.
Property was lovely and clean and very comfortable. A very nice setting with all the other cottages. Farm shop was a short walk away with lovely homemade butter. A nice walk with outstanding views to the Smugglers pub. The park and ride was very handy, and Weymouth has a good network of buses. RSPB Arne is worth a visit, the cottage is very central. The best cottage we have had for quite a while.
Nice cottage in ideal area for exploring Dorset.

We had a lovely time staying at Laurel Cottage. Its very cosy and convenient. Lots of lovely places to visit. The one and only drawback for us was that it was absalutely freezing when we arrived and the heating is not adequate for cold January. It really would benefit by having a better system of heating. Other than that, we could not fault it. Beautifully clean and well equipped. If we booked again, it would be in summer months.
We had a good comfortable weeks stay at Laure cottage , very centrally located ... We had a good comfortable weeks stay at Laure cottage , very centrally located to the centre of Jurassic coast and Dorset , we have already recommended this lovely cottage to family and friends
A cosy cottage, good location for exploring Weymouth and the surrounding area. It seemed as though the cottage had been recently refurbished. The thatch roof is now in the process of being renewed and did not impact our stay. The cottage could have been cleaner and we were requested to clean and tidy the cottage before our departure. However no cleaning materials were left for us to do this properly. We were grateful for the dishwasher tablets. Shame there wasn't a dishwasher to use them in!!!
Should have been better for the price. Laurel cottage was let down by Dreams not paying attention to the details which turn a good holiday into a great one. Specifically and to help Dreams improve the cottage for the future No welcome pack not even milk to make a cup of tea. Cottage not as clean as we would have expected especially as access was not permitted until 5.00 pm. The armchair, settee, toilet and towel rail were tired and the windows very dirty. Printed TV instructions were inadequate but luckily someone had left a scrap of paper on which they had written how to operate the set. There was no oven glove but there were dishwasher tablets even though there was no dishwasher. There were no facilities for recycling and quite a few of the lounge light bulbs didn't work. The outdoor seating area is small and doesn't gets the sun and the archway joining Laurel Cottage to Magnolia Cottage could do with rethatching. The website and cottage details mention a pub near by.....it is closed and looks like it has been for about two years. On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable and the cottage nice and cool after a warm day's walking in the beautiful surrounding Dorset countryside. We enjoyed our stay but Dreams should take time and care to keep Laurel Cottage in the condition it and the price deserves.
Neville
Nice little cottage. Comfortable. Easy access to local beaches need to update the fridge which tended to freeze food, and a dish washer would be better than a clothes washer!
Caroline
No facility for recycling. Apart from that, everything was great!
Edward
Ideal spot for travelling into Weymouth and surrounding area. Cottage was cosy but disappointed with the compact outside deck area, which was surrounded by a tall hedge this restricted the sunlight. Instructions for TV and cooker could have been more explicit. Also we had trouble opening the front door from the inside. Fortunately the cooker and door problems were quickly resolved as a result a call to the customer service number. Good parking right outside the cottage. Overall a good experience.
