The house is a gem. In a relatively secluded location, with no traffic noise, and direct access to the beach and promenade. One feature not mentioned in the description is the perfect view of the sunset from the main living room and front bedroom. We enjoyed several magnificent shows during our week's stay. The owners were very reactive when we mentioned a problem with a loose door handle and a stiff window. Both were fixed the following day. The top bedroom has a very low ceiling, so it's not really suitable for adults. Kids enjoy it though, as it is similar to a tent, but with nice, comfy beds!
Elizabeth
The property was lovely in terms of it's appearance, and it had beautiful views of the bay. We also found it easy to access and the parking was very easy too. The rooms were lovely and decorated nicely, but we found there to be major issues with the heating only 2 out of 4 bedrooms had functioning heating which still wasn't great and in this cold snap it was freezing! Certainly not ideal for a baby to be sleeping in. Aside from this, we had a lovely stay but certainly wouldn't be staying for more than 1 night without them fixing the issue of the heating.
Such a beautiful place to stay. The property was above and beyond all our expectations. Fabulous location, with great beach walks. Kitchen very well stocked with EVERYTHING you need if cooking family meals. Highly recommend this property. We will be returning.
Maggie
Nice location. Thats the only good thing to say. The place needs a really good clean from top to bottom. Kettle full of limescale as are the toilets. Plug hole in bathroom full of hair, that is nasty. Old food left behind bin in kitchen! Scuff marks, dirt marks and dirt all over walls everywhere. Skylight full of cobwebs Totally unacceptable whatever the price.
Matthew
We enjoyed the sunset and plenty of great walks. Whats missing 1. a good cleaning, spider webs in the windows and the skylight. 2. Body soap and shampoo for the bathrooms, this is a small cost the can go a long way 3. Attach the door panel to the fridge door 4. Kitchen towels, just one seems silly 5. 1 or 2 tabs for the washingclothes machine 6. Extra blankets beyond whats on the bed
Loved this cottage, the location, the garden and the view. The little courtyard at the back is a real suntrap. Had to buy some dinner plates as there were not enough when the cottage is fully occupied.Otherwise everything was great. Thank you.
Beautiful comfortable well appointed cottage in incredible position. Suited us perfectly. 3 generation of family! Only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you
Enjoyable weekend stay. House was very clean and had everything we needed. Would recommend
Johanna
Idyllic and peaceful location on the sea front and ideal for dog walkers. We were blessed with great weather and enjoyed visits to Canterbury and Dover Castle. The food and atmosphere at the Old Neptune in Whitstable was great. Would recommend.
Elaine
A lovely house in a beautiful setting looking at the sea. We had a good time staying at the cottage. Inspite of the fact that it was less than we had come to expect from a cottage from Sykes. The cleanliness was not what we have come to expect of properties we have stayed in with Sykes Cottages. We felt the view was by far it's best asset. I realise it's heading towards the end of the season & it certainly needs a repaint all through. If they want to sell it as it's got a for sale sign outside. We felt it was looking a little tired & in need of some TLC. The Kitchen looked lovely but the didnt have everthing you might require we felt is was was very basic. Going back to the cleanliness our daughter joined us for a few days. When I went to strip the bed off on the departure day the mattress cover had stains on it & they were certainly not from us. They looked as if they had been there from previous occupants & the cover had not been washed. There were smears on the bathroom mirrors & shower cubicles. We found bits of food on the floor too. We just felt the cleaning was standard was disappointing. We were quite disappointed & would not recommend a stay there. I felt the property was done in a manner to make money but as cheaply as possible. I would not recommend this property nor would I go back again.
Overall a lovely cottage with an amazing location. Kitchen could have had some more equipment. No soap in one of the bathrooms.
Gillian
Wonderful location and smashing holiday home. Centrally located between Whitstable and Herne Bay but quiet. On the coastal path with wide promenade and easy walking in both directions. Even perfect weather was provided!
We left a few days earlier than expected. House could have been a lot better with a dirty oven, leftover food items in cupboard, no seating area on decking we went and bought a few camping seats but was what we expected. Lovely views so shame to not enjoy them from garden. Neighbours very noisy when outside and couldnt go out in the back as it set off next doors dogs, barking aggressively at our dog! I never read past reviews or looked up where this cottage was located properly, was surprised its set within a huge caravan park, this was my fault but not really my cup of tea!!
Harvey
Our only reservation was the size of the downstairs en suite. This could be a problem for large people. We had an excellent family plus dog holiday and loved the proximity of the sea and beach.
Philip
Lovely location and easy walking access to Whitstable and Herne Bay. Nearby caravan site was useful for entertainment and for top up food shopping. Neighbours very friendly and host was quick to respond to issues. All in all we enjoyed our stay here.
Great location for access to the sea, good lead free dog walks and easy walking to Whitstable and Herne Bay. The accommodation is very comfortable and relaxed, absolutely perfect for our stay with two very well behaved dogs. We would love to have a return visit.
Elaine
The winner with this property is it's position. Right on the beach. My dog has never had so many walks and she loved it but still would not go in the sea. And even though there is a huge holiday park to one side, it was remarkably quiet. The most noise was from the neighbours who obviously live there, so not much you can do about that. But noise only filtered in from outside. Once indoors, so quiet. Comfortable furnishings and fixtures. As others have said, downstairs loo is too small. Would have been better to add the toilet to the ensuite shower in the downstairs bedroom. But I am not an architect. The downstairs bedroom is an asset if you have someone like my mum who cannot manage stairs but the steps to the front door are not disabled friendly I did bring our own ramp which helped. Lots of things in the area but we stayed at the property most of the time and quite happy to do so.
We all enjoyed our stay , its a wonderful cottage and great location . We would love to return,
I really don't think the photos or the reviews do this property justice. It's wonderful, cozy, clean and warm.. Firstly there are amazing sea views from the conservatory and the upstairs bedrooms. Secondly the property was warm, clean and had all we needed to cook large breakfasts and a full roast dinner. The location was lovely and unlike the centre of Whitstable we felt secluded and private a real bonus for us. The owners sent a message to us on the arrival day to make sure we had a contact, they responded quickly when we needed them. Unlike many properties there was no need to buy additional wood bundles there was plenty of wood for us to use and we had a lovely fire for most of our stay. With 3 toilets,a big family bathroom, 2 shower rooms, getting 6 of us up and ready every day was really easy with no arguing for space. In the day everyone had space to chill out, watch TV, play games, cook a meal. The house is well thought out for comfortable living and having a bigger group. We came in march had mixed weather and a wonderful stay, this house will be bliss in the summer as your walk to the sea which is basically at the end of the garden. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We did contemplate not reviewing Coastguard's view so we could come back again and again....
Stephen
We had our second stay at the cottage and had another great time. The kitchen is much improved but we felt the downstairs toilet was to small and would have been, better to have it included in the onsuite downstairs bedroom. We heard scratching noises in the walls in the downstairs bedroom and the bedroom above it.
Andrew
There is much to be liked in Coastguards View. Its location right next to the sea between Whitstable and Herne Bay, a Sainsburys within walking distance, it offers good parking, comfortable sofas, a modern kitchen, 2 toilets with an ensuite apparently on the way, comfortable beds and good linen, reliable internet, a smart TV and a washing machine with room enough for seven people. As we were there at the beginning of December we didnt use the outside area but imagine it would be delightful in summer. We had many trips out Canterbury, Margate, Whitstable, Herne Bay and even managed a day in London. Slightly negative were the facts that the downstairs toilet was a bit too small and cramped. Grandad had problems. The weather was cold when we were there and the dining area and lounge remained cool as the radiators battled with the cool air rising up through the floor boards and the poor seals on the main doors. The boiler thermostat was set to 15 degrees when we arrived which was too chilly so we changed it to 21 degrees. We did not want to use the open fire. Again this would not be a concern in summer or spring or even a mild autumn. Lastly we thought the arrival time of 17.00 is too late and a bit mean. A previous guest has commented on this too. This was not a problem for us as we were coming from North Wales but Grandad living two hours away who arrived earlier than expected found himself waiting. By this time it was cold and dark. Other properties we have been to, allow guests to arrive at 16.00 or sometimes even 15.00. All in all, however we had a happy stay and can recommend the house and Chestfield Barn restaurant in Whitstable where we all had a lovely family meal. We wish the owners all the best.
Joseph
Great location and view. Right on the seafront within walking distance of Whitstable. Easy parking for a second car as well. The property was a little tired and, while clean, there were a load of old cobwebs around the place. Kitchen has a modern oven and hobs, and had just enough equipment to be able to cook meal, but could probably use a freshen up. Some basics were missing on arrival hand and tea towels but the owners arranged for some the next morning. Bedrooms were very comfortable and there is a good shower. Overall a good property and a great weekend, thank you.
The location was fantastic with Herne bay & Whitstable both within walking distance which was fantastic as it meant we didn't have to drive every day. The property itself is a bit tied with mark on the walls and sofas which have definitely seen better days and could do with replacing. It's a 4 bedroom property 8 person but with only one bathroom I wouldn't like to be staying there when full. One of the drawers within the bedroom still had someone's else underwear, jeans and tablets left in it, surely this should of been checked before we arrived. It would of been nice to of had a small welcome pack containing a loaf of bread and a pint of milk just to get you through the first night and also some leaflets about local attractions to go and see we had a Chinese take away menu. Overall we had a good time but just adding a few extra touches like a welcome pack would be welcomed.
Lovely stay once again. Thank you.
Stephen
We had a wonderful time at the cottage. The location is perfect and would recommend to anyone will be visting again. The only complaint we had was that there was a small amount of toilet paper left on the roll and no spares so had to find a shop to buy some.
Arinya
Beautiful location & spacious rooms. Well equipped kitchen. Great stay for those who want to explore Canterbury, Dover and surrounding areas. We enjoyed our stay overall! Of course its a shame that there is only one bathroomtoilet but we knew that going in, and that cant be changed like a dirty towel can. Some of the disappointment for us was the change in checkin time 5pmdoes push back our day by a lot in the grand scheme of things , and although it was notified a month it advance, it wasnt like we had a choice of free cancellation. The floorceilingwall were unfortunately also very thin so you could literally hear everything so not good for light sleepers. Someone mentioned a neighbour with dogs in other reviews, and they were not wrong. Just a caveat, it is not the property owners fault but I wonder if anything can be done?
Absolutely brilliant venue, really relaxing, clean and close to the local pub! The only thing we run out of was wood for the fire. Thank you for the wine, it was a lovely gesture. One of the best places we have stayed, my two little fur babies loved it too!
The property is very run down and desperately needs a refurb, when we arrived the property was very dirty, stained bench seat, stained sofa, dirty marked kitchen sink and units bath panel not fitted and shelving loose, i could go on, we could not spend one night there, we were offered a clean refurbed property but not till the monday which would mean spending 3 nights in a prem inn, not practical with three young grandchildren. no compensation offered, i know my holiday was ruined but dont want other people to have the same experience.
What a lovely place! Well laid out with high end kitchen facilities and loads of space for 5 of us. The welcome bottle of wine, milk and dishwasher tablets were a great touch too. Beautiful view and great location for walks along the beach with the dog. We would definitely come back. Thank you
Danielle
Beautiful location which was the selling point of this property. There was plenty of space and great to house 4 bedrooms, however 1 bathroom for this many bedrooms is really a shame. There could easily have a shower room toilet downstairs out on the back deck.
Gilian
On arrival we had to eliminate around 30 cluster flies which were flying around the downstairs area including the bedroom and more appeared the following morning. the bedrooms were clean and attractive but the rest of the property was not. kitchen & bathroom floors were dirty, kitchen cupboards & hob were sticky and smeared, toilet seat had yellow stain and hairs, shower screen and bath seals were dirty, dirty stains down walls between bath & toilet and by the kitchen bin. laminate on sliding door in kitchen peeling off in places. found dirty tissues in cupboard drawer in downstairs bedroom. property was cold on arrival & nest heating control had been switched off at mains so we had to wait for the thermostat to recharge. There was no fuel for the open fire, the handbook in the property advises that fuel is provided by arrangement with the owner, why is this not made clear on the property listing ? the bedrooms warmed up eventually but the kitchen and lounge area remained cold and was dingy and very dimly lit, not at all welcoming. we stayed one night and went home the following day. we have been renting holiday cottage 2 3 times a year for the last 20 years or so and have never complained before. the location is good but we genuinely do not understand how you can rate this property a four.
Lovely stay, great location.
Nicola
The cottage is lovely and in a stunning location. The beach is lovely and we walked on the beach every day. The tumble dryer not working was an inconvenience as with 7 of us I would have liked to wash and dry the limited towels provided midweek. There are two ovens in the kitchen but only one worked, again for a large family two would have been more convenient but not a huge problem. What did almost make us come home early was next doors dogs barking excessively every time they went out and left them out at the back. This was around 88.30 every week day woke everyone up every day all day long Mon and throughout our stay for 23 hours at a time. It was a warm week and even with all doors and windows shut they were very loud as it is a terraced property with small back yards. We did send the owners a message on Tues to ask if this was likely to continue all week or was a one off as were considering going home early but didn't get a response. We were away for a family wedding and visiting family so we did stay and try and ignore the barking. We took two dogs with us, we are dog lovers and this was not the odd bark! Other than that the cottage is well furnished, as described and a very nice property with a fantastic outdoor area to enjoy the sunshine with a fantastic sea view. Next doors dogs are clearly not the owners fault but did affect our stay.
Lorraine
The cottage was sparkling clean. Bedding crisp. Whole house immaculate. Would go again. Right on the beach, lovely elevated table in garden for looking out over sea. So relaxing.
Kathleen
Wonderful location on to the beach, glad we took the bikes as could cycle along the coast from the house in both directions. The cottage flowed in to the garden and was comfortable and clean.
Joanna
Lovely place to stay surprisingly spacious, nicely furnished and very comfortable. Great location right on the coast, with walks to Herne Bay and Whitstable. Best feature was the deck which was a great place to watch the sun set over the water with a few drinks.
