Castle Cove Cottage Reviews

Elizabeth
We had a lovely few days in Castle Cove Cottage. The view of the cove was amazing, particularly from the bedroom window. We enjoyed watching the activity out in the bay and walked down to the beach each evening. The cottage was well equipped and homely.
Had a fab week, accomadation was good but could do with a little matinence. Upstairs balcony door was not good seems to have a broken top hinge! Balcony looked rather tired and neglected. Had to buy some knives that would prep vegetables as the ones there were very blunt. Also the tumble drier didnt work. I did not report these at the time as I didnt want the hassel of waiting in for someone to come and fix. Perhaps someone shoulh check now and again that all is ok with in the home.
Sandra
Nice property, well situated close to amenities. And would be happy to go back for another holiday. Only issue mugs needed a thorough wash, they were very dirty. Also very noticeable stains on stair and bedroom carpet.
Tracie
Really great location and lovely views, everything you needed and direction access to the beech was great. Small suggestion not for posting, hand wash in the toilets would have been appreciated
Castle Cove Cottage was perfect for our week in Weymouth. Stunning seaviews from patio and masterbedroom. Just 1.2 miles from Weymouth where my son enjoyed crabbing which was plentiful. The small Castle Cove beach was much quieter than Weymouth and great for swimming and paddleboarding. Sandsfoot Castle, gardens and cafe were a short walk with lovely views whilst having a coffee. We also visited Portland Bill and DDay museum both a short drive away and worth a visit. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful cottage in a superb location overlooking the sea. This was our third stay there and well be going back!
Wonderful location with incredible sea views. The cottage contained everything we needed for our stay and we will definitely visit again.
Stephen
Beautiful house in a superb setting. The view is incredible and great for getting onto Weymouth 15 minute walk and to Chesil 20 minutes. Really clean, airy and spacious bedrooms and very comfortable sitting room. Fully equipped kitchen was superb on some rainy December days for us! The private path down to Castle Cove beach is really convenient for us and such a beautiful spot. Would highly recommend a stay here and we will definitely be returning for a fourth time soon.
We had a fantastic time and its an area we love. The cottage was lovely and I lived my dream of sea views and a stones throw from the beach. We didnt do much while in the area this time because of the heat, but we managed to walk to our favourite restaurant Oliveto dog friendly in Weymouth and Billy Winters near to Portland a couple of time, and both have lovely views. The cottage needs some TLC in places nothing that cant be easily sorted They are silly things but would make a big difference to the cottage! The courtyard and front garden could do with clearing the weeds we cleared some in the courtyard garden, the cushions to the garden furniture need washing, the table was held together with wire ties, the balcony needs a good freshen up, the windows needed cleaning to make the most of the wonderful views and the most practical thing, a dust pan and brush to be in the cottage. This is a wonderful cottage and I am already looking to book again for next year!!
Wow! What a view. We loved our stay at Castle Cove Cottage. The small beach at the bottom was beautiful and never busy, one afternoon we had it all to ourselves apart from the occasional dogs out for walks with their humans. The outside area could do with a tidy up and the upstairs balcony could do with fixing but thats as far as i'd go with my moaning! Definitely reccomend a stay here but maybe not for people who can't walk too far as we had to go everywhere in car due to Moms poor mobility Would definitely return even if just for the view and lovely dog friendly beach!
The sea view from this holiday home was absolutely stunning, and the beds were very comfortable, which made for a relaxing stay. However, the property could have been cleaner. The outdoor cushions werent particularly clean, and the baking trays in the cupboard were old, dirty, and still had food on them we ended up buying our own. The kitchen lacked some basic utensils, and the blown doubleglazed window in the main bedroom spoiled what would otherwise have been a beautiful view. More worryingly, the balcony balustrade in the main bedroom was loose on one side and felt unsafe to lean on. We also had issues with the washing machine in the garage, which leaked water across the floor during every wash. With some maintenance and a proper clean, this could be a lovely place to stay, but as it stands, it needs attention. Having said that, we would return just for the location and the view.
Stephen
Superb location for a fully equipped and great specification home. Spectacular views ands close to Sandsfoot Castle
Having seen the latest review I thought I would add ours. We stayed the week before Easter and I reported the blown window in the French door midweek before we left on the Friday, as well as the loose balustrade on the balcony and the kitchen cabinets. Sykes advised these would be dealt with and I would suggest Sykes revisit considering it's been given 4 stars. To warrant 4 stars it needs some TLC. The house is in a great location but we also had the problem of teenagers on the beach playing loud music, shouting and so on in the evenings. We also found the driveway scraped the bottom of our car every time we reversed off, it's a Ford Galaxy so not overly low, but the drive is not level.
Trevor
Describing the beach as Private is very misleading it may be Privately owned but is open to the general public 247. Every evening local youths use it for football, drinking, playing load music etc etc & their rubbish is strewn everywhere in the morning very annoying. The cottages private path to this beach merely runs parallel toalongside the public path. The property is tired main garage door jammed shut, creaky & tired floors upstairs, kitchen units peeling paint, poor quality pans etc, broken window blinds, badly blown master bedroom window obscuring the nice view. No jetty on the beach. Difficult to recommend this house if you like peace n quiet.
Debbie
Thought the house was lovely and had a fantastic time. Just a couple of things there was only a mirror in the main bedroom, nothing in the other 2 bedrooms, which was a bit annoying as I had to keep asking my friend if I could borrow her room and the Kitchen & bathroom the one with the bath in it could do with a bit of a make over this obviously did not spoil our holiday, but as you have asked for feedback, I thought I would mention it.
Barbara
What a beautiful location. The property was clean and welcoming. Walking distance to the town and other amenities. We had a lovely time there and hope to return in 2025.
Great stay in a perfect location. Waking up to the sunrise over Portland Breakwater was wonderful, and there's plenty to do within walking distance of the cottage. Having Castle Cove beach on the doorstep was great too, and perfect for early morning or late afternoon strolls. Having been slightly concerned after reviews spoke about building work very close, there was no evidence of this, and it looks to have been completed now.
Michelle
Lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting although looking tired in places and could do with some small repairs. The bathroom floor is very unstable by the toilet and basin........there is a significant crack in the lounge ceiling, below, which caused some concern. Slightly disappointed in the overall cleanliness of the property, although the bedding was spotless. The gardens and drive areas would have been more inviting had the debris and litter been swept up before our arrival. We found the cushions for the garden furniture to be a bit grubby. However, if these little things were addressed, we would definitely return.
Joanne
Truly a view to die for ! !!!! Stunning
Cleaning was very poor, had to hoover myself

This is our second stay at Castle Cove Cottage Pros The location is absolutely beautiful and we made good use of the beach on the few sunny days we had . The cottage was clean and well equipped with plenty of towels . There is a Coop just 5 minutes walk uphill which has everything you need so no need to bring loads of supplies unless you want to . Cons There were a few niggles from our first stay which had been resolved , but a couple still remained ie The master bedroom curtain does not block out any light I woke up at sunrise every morning which was around 0430 during our stay . A blackout curtain and blind are definitely needed. Secondly the ensuite shower is tiny and its door folds open inwards my husband struggled to get in it , and its impossible to turn on the water without saturating your arm. The cushions for the outside furniture are grubby we knew this from last year so brought our own throws. The washing machine wasnt working during our stay which we discovered after removing a sopping wet load from it which then took days to dry. We did report this , it wasnt resolved during our stay but in fairness we did say it wasnt the be all and end all and no urgency. The hob in the kitchen could do with instructions to switch it on we worked it out eventually but it was a good half hour of trial and error. All in all we had a lovely week and with a couple of tweaks it wouldve been perfect.
Concetta
We had a lovely time, had everything we needed the only thing we suggest is putting more information regarding the keys we only found the key for beach access on the last evening there .
Dietmar
We enjoyed our stay at your house very much, especially with our dog it was perfect being so close to the beach. Can only recommend it!!
Elaine
It was unfortunate that we had building work being carried out on two properties either side of us from 8am4pm everyday of our stay, we could not enjoy the vista from the back garden due to workmen cutting paving stones everyday, The property is in an ideal place for walking to the beach, and was tastefully decorated throughout , the one improvement that could be made is to fit a blind or curtain to the down stairs toilet for more privacy. It would have been an ideal vacation if it wasnt for the building works next door. I would recommend this property to anybody they will certainly enjoy it.
Views from property were amazing , to be able to walk down to quiet secluded beach was just perfect . The negatives were still building work going on both sides of property even though I was told on ringing Sykes that the major work was done and there shouldnt be any noise there was . The other problem was with the TV ..It only worked by streaming and occasionally the WiFi dropped out , making it very frustrating.
It's a great cottage, the veach so close is brill
Lovely place beach in the back garden was nice the house and the view is amazing ... Lovely place beach in the back garden was nice the house and the view is amazing there was work going on next door but it was not loud at all so don't let that put you off i had a little leak in the shower I phone up and withing 5 minutes the plumber arived and fixed the problem all in all amazing house and great customer service will deffo be coming back next year
Jacqueline
Although there is a disclaimer re building work it should be stated how extensive it is at the moment both side of the property The property adjoining is having a new roof and the builders were there from 7. 30am till 8.30pm one day I went round to complain I booked this property last November so thought it wouldnt be a problem I think it should be checked on a local basis rather than just putting a disclaimer The outside patio had not been swept and was full of debris from the trees also the front entrance needed attention That being be said it is in a fantastic location and the property itself although could be slightly improved I.e nowhere to hang towels in the ensuite we had a great time and are going to book again for next year These little things should be addressed as the property isnt cheap and some holidays makers value the little things more than the view I did report the tv not working properly so you sent someone round the same day which was excellent however he said it was a faulty plug but it isnt it is a FAULTY SIGNAL OR AERIAL problem I would certainly hope this is fixed next year when I revisit the property Is this does get read I would hope the above points are addressed as its has been constructive criticism not just nit picking
Where to start? There are builders in the adjoining property and noisy drilling, sawing and hammering starts from just before 8 till 4.30. We have been unable to use the patio or balcony because of noise and dust. Builders on scaffolding just a couple of feet from the main bedroom window mean that curtains have to be kept drawn thus depriving us of the wonderful view. Dont expect any help from Sykes who are hiding behind a small notice at the end of the property listing added when building works started the other side over a year ago which are no problem. We would advise against booking this property until the building works have been completed.
Bartholomew
Cobwebs in main bedroom and on suite toilet, which also had awful smell emanating once door was opened. No iron was found but did have an ironing board! Parking was not as easy to get in or out of the drive as visitors to the beach are allowed to park very close to the drive entrance. View from the back of the property across the bay and beach was wonderful.
We are missing the views! It is a shame about the houses being built which do take some of the view & directly next door has scaffolding up at the rear with building work. It didn't spoil our holiday at all, it is in a great spot within easy access to Weymouth beach, the harbour & Nothe Fort, we also travelled slightly further to Sandworld 6mins in the car& Durdle Door 30mins. The house was clean & had everything we needed for a great stay. Thank you.
Jackie
The house was lovely but the tv reception was rubbish only channel one and two and they kept dropping out the internet was the same. There were workman cleaning the steps down to the beach on Wednesday , in the evening we realised they had left the large gate at the top open with the key still in the lock I left it on the table when we left.
Lovely little house, very clean and comfortable. Good amounts of kitchen products. Enough towels, bedding. Great position just off the beach with fantastic access. Lovely place to stay and would come back. The fridge didnt get cold enough so would be good to get this checked. The main bedroom needs a chest of drawers as not everything can be hung up. Otherwise great thank you
Billie
A very pleasant house with an amazing view of the harbour, ideal for our family requirements. We watered the plants every day but they were neglected when we arrived. Well equipped we made use of the washing machine, etc. Fan was a bit noisy in the kitchen and we couldn't seem to turn it off minor detail though and didn't detract from the enjoyment. We would stay there again.
Angela
Builders arrive next door and start work at 7. 30am, on our last night they had noisy machinery going until 10.45pm. Avoid this property until building site right next door is complete. Sykes arent interested in our feedback and they should be offering this property at a discounted rate for the noise impact.
